Aside from working up a sweat and losing weight, exercise comes with additional benefits.Working out minimizes anxiety, according to a new study conducted by Princeton University. This research revealed that physical activity causes a release of a neurotransmitter which quiets the brain and reduces anxiety.
Exercise decreases the risk of individuals developing severe health conditions, such as heart diseases, diabetes and certain cancers, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported. Physical activity also prevents individuals from contracting common illnesses, such as flus and the common cold, according to CNN. The U.S. National Library of Medicine reported that colds lasted 43 percent longer for people who engaged in physical activity once a week or less.
Additionally, people who exercise enjoy better sleep. A study conducted by U.S. National Institutes of Health defined better sleep as falling asleep quicker and reducing the need for sleep-inducing medication. Exercise also helps individuals who suffer from depression, according to The Atlantic.
Martial arts helps individuals experience all of these benefits. Those who practice martial arts may enjoy better sleep, a healthy mindset and a reduced risk of illnesses.
